The State Library of Kansas is happy to announce that starting on July 31st, audio books from Audio books, music and more! will be available for download in MP3 format. The MP3 collection will include approximately 1,000 titles at the launch date and should be growing throughout the coming year.
The most exciting news about this format, is that these MP3 files should work on most existing MP3 players including the iPod and the Zune.
I hope that many of you will be able to take advantage of this exciting development as an opportunity to promote this service. If you would like ideas, or if you have any questions about the audio books, music and more service, please feel free to direct them to me (Eric) at egustafson@kslib.info

We are so pleased to be able to finally offer MP3 audio books on SLK’s Audiobooks, Music and More! Eric tells me that there were over 200 downloads within the first 24 hours….now that is demand!
I’m very proud of this project as it provides a great product, but even more because it is a truly statewide project, funded jointly by libraries across Kansas. We are the only state providing audio books in this way and I think it represents the cooperative spirit of the Kansas library community.

I had some people come in and they wanted me to show them around the Audiobooks site and how it worked. They were from a larger city that will remain nameless, and were completely flabbergasted that Kansas was offering something this cool. “our library doesn’t offer anything this cool!”
